Focus on: Volunteering

What’s your name?

Felicity.

When did you get involved with Kogs?

I started with Kogs in September 2014.

What made you want to get involved?

I rarely watch the news however when the scandal in Rotherham was brought to light the whole subject matter got my attention. I then saw Kogs on BBC News and I wanted to know more.

Have you ever volunteered before?

I have volunteered before, my most recent role was part of my university placement in a local secondary school. This was also a reason why I wanted to get involved with Kogs as I saw many situations which could have benefitted from our input.

What does your role involve?

My role as a volunteer involves helping out within the different workshops we deliver at local schools, my aim is to help the young ladies we work with, with anything they may need, it could involve the work we are doing in the session or something as simple as having a quick chat with them to check in on how they’re doing.

My personal aim is to hopefully become more involved as I thoroughly believe in what we do and completely enjoy every minute I spend at Kogs, at times I even forget I’m a volunteer.

So you do all that for free! What’s the point?

One of the main reasons I have taken on this role is the satisfaction I get from working with the incredible young ladies in each school and also the team at Kogs, they are fantastic at what they do! We all seem to be on the same waive length in that we care so much about the wellbeing of each young lady that attend our workshops and we just want to increase awareness of all the unhealthy and unacceptable behaviour out there and to empower these young ladies so they understand that it’s more than ok to say No!

What advice would you give to anyone who is interested in volunteering?

If you are interested in working with a variety of young ladies who can present all types of challenges and you believe in the cause then please get in touch! I can promise you that you will enjoy yourself whilst making a lasting impression within each group that you work.
